Patient Care

Paramedic training

Henderson County EMS prides itself on providing exceptional prehospital emergency care.  In order to do so, our paramedics are empowered by a progressive set of treatment protocols and employ a variety of cutting-edge techniques including, but not limited to:

  • Drug-assisted intubation to secure a patient’s airway in cases of respiratory failure or airway compromise
  • 12-lead ECG interpretation to identify STEMI patients and activate the cardiac catherization lab from the prehospital setting
  • Prehospital stroke triage to direct patients to the most appropriate facility
  • Surgical cricothyrotomy when a patient’s airway can not be secured by less invasive means
  • Non-invasive positive airway pressure ventilation, including both continuous positive airway pressure and bi-level positive airway pressure, to provide maximal benefit for patients experiencing respiratory emergencies
  • A wide range of medications, including multiple antidysrhythmics, tranexamic acid for hemorrhagic shock, hydroxocobalamin for cyanide toxicity, labetalol for blood pressure management in stroke patients, ketamine for sedation and analgesia, and norepinephrine for hypoperfusion
