Historic Resources Commission

The historical heritage of Henderson County and its municipalities is a valuable and important asset. By endeavoring to preserve historic districts and landmarks, Henderson County seeks: (1) to safeguard the heritage of the County and its municipalities by preserving districts and landmarks therein which embody important elements of its culture, history, architectural history, or prehistory; and (2) to promote the use and conservation of such districts and landmarks for the education, pleasure, and enrichment of the residents of the County and beyond. The Henderson County Historical Resources Commission (HRC) is established to achieve these among many other goals related to historic resources. The HRC shall adhere to its established Rules of Procedure.

Meeting Schedule, Agendas and Minutes

The HRC meets the third Monday of even numbered months at 3:00 PM (unless otherwise noted) in the King Street Meeting Room, in the County Administration Building, located at 100 North King Street, Hendersonville, NC.

Members

The HRC consists of eight (8) members, including four (4) representatives from participating municipalities (appointed by the municipalities). HRC members are appointed to serve three (3) year terms. The Planning Department Staff serves as the primary County staff to the Historic Resources Commission. One (1) seat is currently vacant. Individuals interested in serving on the HRC may contact Deputy Clerk to the Board of Commissioners Terry Wilson ((828) 697-4808) in order to obtain an application.

Historic Resources Commision Rules of Procedure, approved April 15, 2009

OBJECT, MISSION, AND PURPOSE
The objective of the Henderson County Historic Resources Commission, hereafter termed
“Commission,” shall be to preserve the historical, prehistorical, architectural, archaeological, and
cultural heritage of Henderson County, hereinafter sometimes referred to as the “County.”
The Commission serves as the County Board of Commissioners official historic advisory body to
identify, preserve, protect and educate the public about the County’s historic resources.
The purpose of these rules shall be to establish procedures for organizing the business of the
Commission, for processing applications, to review or act upon proposals for alteration or
demolition of designated landmarks, and any other proposals under the jurisdiction of the
Commission as determined by the Henderson County Board of Commissioners and as allowed
under “An Ordinance to Provide for the Preservation of Historic Resources”, hereinafter
sometimes referred to as the “Preservation Ordinance”.
