Henderson County Housing Information

In addition to federal and state law, Henderson County has adopted a strong fair housing policy.

You have the right to live anywhere you want, regardless of who you are or where you are from. Fair Housing Law prohibits discrimination in rental or sale of homes. It is illegal for a landlord to discriminate against you based on race, religion, sex, color, national origin, handicap (physical or mental disability or illness, including HIV/AIDS), or familial status (for example, if you have children or are pregnant).

Henderson County recognizes that discriminatory practices are detrimental to its citizens and to the future development of Henderson County and shall take necessary action to remedy the effects of discrimination and prevent the growth of such practices. The County will aggressively move to counteract any activities which restrict the potential for equal opportunity in housing.

Henderson County affirms its commitment to ensure equal opportunity in housing for all persons who are, or who desire to reside within its boundaries. In the conduct of all County programs and activities affecting the housing of county residents, the policy of Henderson County shall be to promote equal choice and access to housing for all persons.

Henderson County encourages all real estate brokers, agents, home builders, and developers, mortgage holders, and landlords to review operating practices and work with the County in providing equal housing opportunities.
