Transit Riders

Waiting

Be sure to check the destination sign on the front of the vehicle (above the windshield) to be sure you are boarding the correct vehicle. If you still are not sure, tell the driver where you want to go and ask if you are getting on the right vehicle.

When waiting stand at the nearest bus stop sign or at the near side of an intersection if no sign is available. Make sure the driver can see you so you are not passed by. Always signal the driver that you wish to ride.

Boarding

Please have your exact fare or pass ready before boarding. Drivers carry no money and cannot make change. If you need a transfer, ask the driver when you pay your fare. After you leave the driver's area, no transfer will be issued. After paying your fare, please move to the rear of the vehicle, making front seats available for elderly or disabled passengers. Take your seat as quickly as possible to allow the driver to start moving and maintain the schedule.

Passenger Safety and Comfort

Please do not engage the driver in conversation. His or her job requires that he or she concentrate fully on driving; he or she may be distracted by talking.

For the safety and comfort of other passengers:

Please use care and courtesy when carrying items such as umbrellas, groceries, etc. Help keep your buses clean by keeping your feet off the seats and taking all trash with you.

Exiting

Give the driver adequate notice you want to exit. Use the rear exit door, allowing boarding passengers to use the front door and maintaining the schedule. After exiting, do not cross the street in front of the vehicle. Stand away from the vehicle and wait until it has left before attempting to cross the street.

Transferring

Purchase your Transfer when Boarding: You must ask the driver for a transfer when boarding, stating the route to which you want to transfer. Transfers will not be issued at any other time during your trip. You cannot obtain a transfer when you exit.

Transfer Validity: Transfers have a printed “time issued” on their face. You must take the next available vehicle traveling the route to which you are transferring for the transfer to be valid. Buses are occasionally delayed by trains, traffic, or blocked streets. Drivers will adjust the time on the transfer and will inform you of how long you will have to wait. If the vehicle you are riding is more than 5 minutes late, no transfers are guaranteed. Transfers are not valid for making a round trip. For example, you may not ride the bus downtown, shop for 30 minutes and use the transfer to return home. Transfers may not be sold or given away.

Making the Transfer: When approaching the transfer point, your driver will notify the other driver so you are assured of making your connection. When you board the second vehicle, give your transfer to the driver. Do not put the transfer in the fare box or leave the transfer on the driver’s seat!

Disputes & Refusals

In case of a dispute with a driver, please pay the fare and call 698-8571 to discuss the dispute with a supervisor. Apple County Transit has the right to refuse any passenger.

Lost & Found Items

If you find an item that another rider may have left behind, please give it to the driver. All items left behind are turned in at the end of the day. If you leave an item behind, please call 698-8571.
