Intrauterine Device (IUD)

An IUD is a small copper and/or plastic device that is put into the uterus to prevent pregnancy. The IUD can be left in and prevent pregnancy for up to 5-10 years. The device can be removed whenever the woman is ready to become pregnant. The IUD can only be inserted by a trained healthcare professional. It does not prevent sexually transmitted infections.
