Henderson County advocates the use of metadata. GIS metadata is detailed descriptive information about GIS data.
Metadata includes information about: the source of the data, its creation date and format, its projection, scale, resolution, accuracy, reliability and other information.

Henderson County provides metadata for base layers in *.XML format, which is viewable in a web browser or ArcCatalog.

To acquire metadata for Henderson County GIS layers, go to the GIS download site, follow the instructions for downloading shapefiles, and click on the "Metadata" folder.

Not all of our data layers have metadata on this site. If you are interested in metadata for other layers please e-mail gis@hendersoncountync.org to request them.

Henderson County uses several datasets from other sources including state government. The primary source (provider) should be contacted to obtain metadata for these layers.
