The best way to manage household hazardous waste is to use or create as little of it as possible. Click here for a list of natural, safe alternatives to hazardous products. Visit the NC DENR HHW page for a thorough description of typical household hazardous waste.

Household Hazardous Waste Events are held on the third Tuesday at the Henderson County Convenience Center during spring and summer months. The following items are accepted: household chemicals, pesticides, and liquid paints ($2/gallon container fee; click here for approved FY 16 fee schedule). *Our facility cannot accept biohazard, reactive, or explosive materials.*

The 2015 Household Hazardous Waste events have concluded and will resume in 2016.

All materials must be brought into the Center in original containers or packaging if applicable.

A Materials Collection Form is required for items in containers without a label. These items MUST be generated at a residence. No business or commercial waste will be accepted during this program.

All events are from 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon at the Convenience Center located off Stoney Mountain Road at 265 Convenience Center Drive. The last car in line at noon will be accepted and then the event line will close.

All types of liquid paint can be recycled on the Transfer Station side at the Paint Recycling Station for $2.00/liquid gallon container in the form of oil, latex and acrylic based paint (no charge for spray paint). Cash or check only are accepted (checks can be made out to Henderson County Solid Waste, please put HHW 2015 in subject line.)

The events are for Henderson County residents only; be prepared to show proof of residence for materials being disposed of at this event. A materials collection form should be filled out by each resident who utilizes the event. Businesses should contact Environmental Programs for disposal options.

Thank you for helping to get rid of harmful chemicals appropriately.
