With rising health care costs even families with middle income can have trouble with medical and insurance costs. Our goal is to assist families with these medical costs. On average, 763 elderly and disabled people and 7,352 children received health care through our medicaid program in Henderson County. Fifty eight percent of all children ages 0 to 6 in Henderson County received health care paid for by Medicaid or North Carolina Health Choice.
Allows eligible citizens to receive physician services as well as routine preventive care for children, inpatient and outpatient hospital care and prescriptions. The program also emphasizes prenatal care for pregnant women. Medicaid is also a significant source of income for nursing home care, medical care, and prescription drugs for elderly and disabled citizens. It also helps provide home and community based services to individuals who would otherwise require nursing facility care.
North Carolina Health Choice:
This is a state sponsored insurance program that covers the children of working families that have income too high for Medicaid coverage but cannot afford private health insurance. Based on income, some families may be required to pay a yearly premium for coverage that never exceeds $100 per family.
We also provide transportation to and from medical care facilities for individuals who are not able to provide transportation for themselves.
Applications for Medicaid and NC Health Choice are available at the Department of Social Services and our outreach centers at Park Ridge Hospital, Pardee Hospital, Blue Ridge Health Center, Sammy Williams Center, and the Henderson County Health Department.
