Adult Assistance- Introduction

WHAT IS MEDICAID FOR THE AGED, BLIND AND DISABLED?

Medicaid is a program that pays medical bills for eligible adults who cannot afford health care.  Adults under the age of 65 must meet the definition of disability, which is the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment(s) which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months.  The program costs are paid by federal, state, and county taxes.  It also pays prescriptions for eligible adults without Medicare.
