The Office of Youth Programs, a program of the Department of Social Services, operates Spectrum Youth Home, a long-term foster home facility for youth. The Youth Home Manager is Kathy Nash.
Essential Departmental Functions: Spectrum provides supportive care and services for children in D.S.S. custody, and helps meet the foster care needs of Henderson and surrounding Western North Carolina counties. The residential facility is designed to provide a home-like atmosphere for foster children who may have been abused and/or neglected, and can house up to nine children in a safe, nurturing environment. Operation is on a 24 hour per day/7 day per week schedule with awake coverage, and staff operates on a two-deep leadership philosophy at all times. Funds for operation come from county, state and federal sources. Spectrum Youth Home opened on July 29, 1995. Henderson County has supported and operated group homes for children for many years.
